Challenge

  • As student success rates continued to decrease, UTS:INSEARCH saw this as an opportunity to augment existing educational practices

  • UTS:INSEARCH sought to upgrade the existing systems used by the college to administer and distribute assessment results

  • UTS:INSEARCH wanted to improve their enrollment process, and match student skills to the correct courses to ensure the right course fit, securing successful course completion rates

  • UTS:INSEARCH wanted the ability to identify failure risks early, and systematically assess students throughout their courses to ensure high academic standards

  • Improving the support mechanisms available for students was also a top priority

Approach

  • Solentive was selected to partner with UTS:INSEARCH to develop a web-based student assessment system, that enables international and domestic students to enroll online, or via an Agent, and receive an offer immediately, based on their unique skill set and test results

  • Solentive’s iterative Agile-based approach, provided UTS:INSEARCH with the ability to respond quickly to changing requirements in a competitive, fast-paced environment

  • The database-driven software solution was developed using a technology foundation based on ASP .NET and SQL Server 2000

  • The system fully integrates with Microsoft Active Directory

  • Solentive has partnered with UTS:INSEARCH to continue to develop their digital systems, including integration with existing student management systems, and the introduction of a mobile app to target alternative student bases

Outcomes

  • The speed of the enrollment process and the ability for students to receive an offer in real-time via an online application process, has increased Insearch’s success in attracting and retaining students

  • Data relating to over 1,500 different students each semester is stored in a central, universally accessible location

  • Insights provided enable UTS:INSEARCH to better understand their student needs and skill sets, and then match students to courses, reducing drop-out rates and providing the data to initiate other retention-based initiatives

  • The software provides administrators with support mechanisms, such as feedback and tracking functionality, which enables educators to monitor and analyse the performance of “at risk” students

  • The student assessment system has driven significant cost savings and increased student uptake and revenue for UTS:INSEARCH
